Job description

The Faculty of Natural Sciences hosts nine academic departments, a School of Pharmacy and several world-class research institutes and centres. Based on a foundation of internationally-recognised quality research, the faculty is committed to learning and teaching excellence and offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the major scientific disciplines as well as a professional degree in Pharmacy.

We are seeking a Senior Lecturer / Lecturer to join the Department of Earth Sciences in the Faculty. The Department offers degree programmes in Applied Geology and Environmental & Water Sciences and boasts active research groups in water and petroleum geosciences. Joining the Applied Geology section of the Department, the ideal candidate will be highly motivated and willing to make a significant contribution to our research and teaching activities, adding expertise in economic and field geology to compliment and extend existing activities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key responsibility areas:

  • Teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in economic geology and African geology courses, along with introductory geology courses. (This includes both classroom teaching and field excursions.)
  • Conduct research and publish in economic geology and geo-energy resources in general.
  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Provide academic leadership and contribute to administration.
  • Undertake curriculum development and assessment.
  • Participate in community engagement and outreach.
  • Implement contemporary visualization technologies including Highly Immersive Visual Environment (HIVE), LIDAR-based systems, and drone mapping to enhance geological field education
