Job Description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Appointing a Senior Lecturer / Lecturer to contribute towards undergraduate and post graduate teaching, practice supervision of students and research supervision of post graduate students in the subject group Psychology.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and learning, including higher degree supervision

  1. Engaged teaching and learning on both under- and post graduate levels: Develop study material, facilitate contact sessions, internal and external moderation and assessment.

Research and innovation

  1. Engaged research: Supervision of post graduate students; internal and external examination of post graduate research dissertations and/or theses; participation in the applicable research entity and publication of articles.
  2. Independent research and sharing of expertise with diverse communities of practice and enquiry.

Social responsiveness and industry involvement

  1. Maintain involvement in community service as a scholarly practice. Execute activities by which discipline-based skills and knowledge are made relevant to the community.

Academic leadership, management and administration

  1. Participate in faculty and school committees.

Minimum Requirements

  1. A master’s degree in Clinical Psychology (NQF level 9).
  2. Registered as a Clinical Psychologist with the HPCSA.

In addition to the above;

SENIOR LECTURER

  1. A minimum of two (2) years’ teaching and learning experience in blended contact sessions with university students.
  2. A minimum of three (3) years’ research and innovation experience in stable publication record (at least 2 articles) and supervision of post graduate students towards graduation.
  3. A minimum of two (2) years’ generic Clinical Psychology practice experience - direct practice and/or Clinical Psychology supervisory/ managerial.

LECTURER

  1. A minimum of one (1) year generic Clinical Psychology practice experience - direct practice and/or Clinical Psychology supervisory/ managerial.

Added Advantages & Preferences

  1. A minimum of one (1) year teaching and learning experience in blended contact sessions with university students.

Key Functional/ Technical Competencies

  1. Ability and experience to work from an evidence-based approach in psychology.
  2. Excellent communication skills (verbally and written).
  3. Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU.
  4. Computer literacy (Microsoft office, e-mails, power point, software for data analysis).

Key Behavioural Competencies

  1. Ability to use e-media for teaching, studying and communication.
  2. The ability to work well independently as well as in a team.
  3. Good time management and ability to work well under pressure.
