The Department of Business Management is part of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences at the research-intensive Stellenbosch University (SU), where we advance knowledge in service of society. Duties/Pligte

  • Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules in investment management (including property investment).
  • Supervision of postgraduate students at honours, master's and PhD levels (if the incumbent has a PhD).
  • Participating in Departmental, Faculty and University activities.
  • Self-initiated research towards the completion of a PhD (if applicable).
Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

  • PhD in finance, investment management or a related field, OR a master's degree in investment management (or similar, for example, MBA/MCom) and the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification.
  • Proven knowledge, understanding, and the ability to teach modules in at least two of the following areas: property investment, equity analysis, derivative instruments, fixed income securities, portfolio theory, portfolio management, behavioural finance, or investment ethics.
  • Lecturing experience in investment management modules at undergraduate level.
  • The ability to teach in English at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • At least one scholarly publication in an accredited subject journal.


Short-listed candidates (those invited for interviews) will be expected to present a lecture on a designated topic to members of the Department of Business Management. If available, examples of the course material (including examination papers and tests) used in previous courses must be presented after the lecture.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling

  • Practical industry experience in an investment-related environment.
