The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that educates the students across multiple disciplines including Accounting, Finance, Management, Economics, Industrial Psychology (Human Resources Management), Information Systems, Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS), Institute for Social Development, Political Studies, School of Government (including Public Administration) and the Academic Literacies Progamme.

The Department of Information Systems, within the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, plays a vital role in supporting this strategic imperative. The Department prides itself in retaining a team of highly qualified professionals and researchers in the Information Systems and associated ICT fields. The Department is currently experiencing growth and is therefore inviting highly qualified individuals to join its team of full-time academic staff. The Department is seeking to recruit Information Systems academics to complement its research agenda and support its growing portfolio of postgraduate programmes, which are aligned with the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The successful candidate for Senior Lecturer will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

  • Facilitate learning at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Information Systems;
  • Conduct research and publish;
  • Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision;
  • Participate in community engagement and outreach;
  • Conduct academic administration;
  • Undertake curriculum development and assessment;
  • Undertake any other duties as may be assigned by the Departmental Chairperson.

Minimum Requirements

  • A Doctoral degree in Information Systems, Information Technology or a related field;
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning in data analytics, object-oriented programming, database design, and/or systems architecture;
  • A record of research output in peer-reviewed publications;
  • Proven experience of post-graduate supervision;
  • Demonstrated competence in community engagement.
