CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

The Department of Human Movement Science seeks to appoint a Senior Lecturer in the field of Sport Management, to contribute meaningfully to the academic teaching, research output, and community engagement of the department. The role is key to preparing graduates in the management and administration of sport across diverse contexts and settings. The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating and administering undergraduate and post graduate teaching, supervising research, contributing to sport management qualification curriculum development, and engaging in community and

industry partnerships aligned to the sport management discipline.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Facilitate teaching and learning in undergraduate and post graduate programmes, with a focus on sport management, and select human movement science modules and their application in a sport management context.
  • Coordinate and deliver academic content including curriculum development, assessment design, and academic support.
  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate based research and promote scholarly activities within the sport management discipline.
  • Contribute actively to departmental research projects and produce scholarly publications.
  • Identify students at risk, provide academic mentoring, and contribute to student success initiatives.
  • Participate in departmental administration, meetings, and contribute to strategic planning.
    • Engage in community outreach, experiential-learning, and collaboration with relevant industries and institutions.
    • Possess knowledge and experience in the management and administration of international partnerships

  • Demonstrated expertise in sport management theory and its practical applications.
  • Experience in the development and management of sport management programmes and curricula.
    • Ability to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels using innovative, student-centered methodologies.
  • Strong administrative, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Experience in student supervision and mentoring.
    • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Moodle/Sakai) and virtual teaching environments.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated research output.
Requirements

To be considered for appointment to this post, candidates must have the following:

Minimum Qualification

  • A relevant Sport Management Masters/ PhD qualification.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5yrs industry experience in the management and administration of sport.
  • Minimum of 3 yrs experience in sport coaching would be advantageous.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in facilitating learning and teaching in higher education, specific to sports management.
  • Evidence of undergraduate and postgraduate supervision and scholarly output.
  • Previous experience in managing or coordinating sport management-related academic programmes would be advantageous.
  • Previous experience in managing or coordinating international academic programme partnerships would be advantageous.

Research

  • Demonstrated research activity and ability to contribute to the department’s research outputs and

profile.

Professional Skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Ability to manage academic responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Engagement with sport organisations, federations, and NGOs.
