Job description

Our client is seeking to employ a Senior Lecturer - English Language in Hargeisa, Somaliland.

Job Purpose:

To deliver high-level instruction in English language and communication skills, lead language development workshops, mentor research in linguistics or literature, and strengthen academic English proficiency across the university through innovative teaching and faculty collaboration.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Teaching and Learning:

  • Deliver lectures and tutorials in core areas such as English language proficiency, linguistics, academic writing, discourse analysis, sociolinguistics, and English
    for Specific Purposes (ESP).
  • Design, revise, and enhance course content and learning materials aligned with current linguistic theory, pedagogy, and digital literacy.
  • Implement diverse, inclusive, and student-centered teaching approaches, including blended and online methods.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and academic quality assurance processes.
  • Evaluate student performance using effective assessment tools and provide constructive feedback


Research and Publication:

  • Conduct original and collaborative research in areas such as applied linguistics, second language acquisition, TESOL, English for academic or professional
    communication, or digital literacy.
  • Publish in peer-reviewed journals, books, and conference proceedings at national and international levels.
  • Seek research funding and participate in interdisciplinary or educational research projects.
  • Present findings at conferences and contribute to language policy or curriculum development initiatives.
Student Supervision & Advising:

  • Supervise undergraduate final-year projects, master’s theses, and doctoral dissertations in English Language or related fields.
  • Provide academic advising and career mentoring to students pursuing language, teaching, or communication pathways.
  • Guide students in research activities, writing clinics, and public speaking or academic competitions.
  • Support students’ academic development through individual consultation and academic advising.
Institutional Contribution:

  • Serve on departmental and university-level committees, quality assurance panels, and curriculum boards.
  • Lead or contribute to workshops, seminars, and public engagement activities related to English language and literacy.
  • Support institutional initiatives in digital learning, multicultural engagement, or internationalization.
  • Mentor early-career faculty members and participate in teaching enhancement programs.
  • Engage in community or outreach programs that promote English language education and literacy.
ACADEMIC & PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION

  • Master’s in English Language, Applied Linguistics, TESOL, or related field
RELEVANT KNOWLEDGE / SKILS & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 2–3 years of teaching English at university level
  • Experience with non-native English learners in multicultural environments
  • Familiarity with CEFR, academic writing standards, and digital tools for language instruction
  • Background in British, American, or international English systems an asset
