Job Opportunity: Senior Lecturer in Interdisciplinary Arts and Culture Studies

The Department of Interdisciplinary Arts and Culture Studies in the School of Arts at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, is recruiting a Senior Lecturer. We invite applications from qualified candidates who share our lens of decoloniality and interdisciplinarity as the core approaches in research and teaching. This includes connections across various professional degrees within the school, disciplines, and beyond, covering areas such as culture, identity politics, aesthetics, economics, science and technology, and their socio-political, historical, and contemporary power relations.

Minimum Requirements
  • PhD in cultural studies, film or media studies, visual cultures, or related discipline aligned with Film, Visual & Performing Arts.
  • Active researcher with an established publication record.
  • Expertise in areas such as modes of storytelling across media and cultures, media/cultural studies with a South African or Global South perspective, intersections of creative and traditional research modes, and creative practices and industries.

Teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including supervision, and relevant departmental administrative experience are essential.
