Job summary

DVT is looking for experienced Java Software Engineers to join a new banking and payments initiative based in Cape Town. You will be embedded in an engineering squad and work with senior engineers, tech leadership, project management and business analysis teams.

This role emphasizes quality, accountability and sound engineering judgement in a collaborative, delivery-focused environment. The contract is initially 4 to 6 months with possible extension.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial software development experience.
• 4+ years Java development across versions; Java 11–22 range.
• 3+ years Spring Boot development.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes and Terraform.
• Proficiency in SQL with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL.
• RESTful API design and development.
• Experience with Kafka event streams.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs in Java/Spring Boot.
• Develop and integrate with in-house frameworks and tooling.
• Create Docker files, containers and Helm/Kubernetes configs.
• Develop Kafka-based event streams with multi-topic consumption.
• Write and optimise SQL for MySQL/PostgreSQL.
• Collaborate with leadership and teams, following standards.
