A leading company in IT support is seeking a Senior IT Support Technician based in Centurion. This full-time role involves providing comprehensive IT support, mentoring team members, and traveling to customer sites across South Africa. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in server administration and networking, along with excellent interpersonal skills.
This is a full-time position based in Centurion.
Location
Although the position is available at our headquarters in Centurion, the role requires traveling to customer premises within South Africa, which may include overnight stays.
Duties and Responsibilities
We provide full-stack IT support, from networks to desktops, including servers. The operating systems we use are Windows, Linux (preferably RedHat-based), and MacOS if necessary. The incumbent must be able to support these systems for our customers, many of whom have specific software requirements, offering continuous learning opportunities. Supporting and mentoring team members is also essential. The ability to integrate into a team is crucial.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The candidate should have advanced skills in administering Windows and Linux servers, including services like email, HTTP, DNS, and Active Directory. Knowledge of Microsoft Azure and managing hybrid AD environments is required. Experience with SAMBA, including installation, configuration, and AD integration, is advantageous. Excellent end-user support skills, professionalism, and the ability to work with users effectively are vital. Networking skills, especially in building LANs, VLANs, WANs, and managing internet connectivity and firewalls (e.g., IPTables), are also necessary. The candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, be self-motivated, decisive, and eager to learn and collaborate.
Credentials and Experience
At least five years of server administration experience (Windows and Linux), three years of end-user support, and two years in networking (TCP/IP) are preferred. Relevant certifications are a plus.
