Duties & Responsibilities

ENVIRONMENT: The strong technical expertise of a Senior IT Engineer with 10+ years of applicable work experience in Linux and Windows environments is sought to join the team of a dynamic Centurion-based tech company.

Your core role will be to maintain & support the Linux and Windows-based infrastructure and database servers, ensuring a seamless flow of information throughout the company, considering both backend data structure and frontend accessibility for end-users.

The successful incumbent must have a Grade 12 / Matric, a computer-related BS Degree or relevant certifications including N+, A+, Linux, Microsoft, LPI 1, and RHCSA / RHCE.

You will also need experience with Shell Scripting, Zabbix, Nagios, Virtual environments, Networking, MySQL, and hands-on experience with database standards and end-user applications.

DUTIES:

1. Installation and configuration of Linux and Windows systems.
2. Maintain, update, patch, tune, and repair applications to keep them performing according to technical and functional specifications.
3. Create, configure, and install Virtual Machines and ESX or ESXimunicate and enforce Operating system changes and compliance requirements.
4. Communicate and enforce IT and system standards.
5. Create and architect system layouts.
6. Maintain and improve existing systems.
7. Perform fault-finding, analyze problems, and provide solutions.
8. Log faults with 3rd parties.
9. Installation and configuration of MySQL Server.
10. Recommend solutions by defining physical database structures and functional capabilities, database security, data backups, and recovery specifications.
11. Evaluate existing systems and design proposed systems.
12. Maintain database performance by calculating optimum values for database parameters, implementing new releases, completing maintenance requirements, and evaluating computer operating systems and hardware products.
13. Maintain quality service by establishing and enforcing organizational standards.
14. Determine, enforce, and document database/server policies, procedures, and standards.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Qualifications: National Senior Certificate (Grade 12 / equivalent), BS Degree in a computer discipline or relevant certifications.
• Certifications: N+, A+, Microsoft, LPI 1 (LP2 a bonus), RHCSA / RHCE.
• Experience/Skills: 10+ years in Linux and Windows environments, significant network knowledge (FortiGate firewalls advantageous), Shell Scripting, Virtual environments, Monitoring systems (Zabbix, Nagios), Databases (MySQL), Data backup, recovery, security, and SQL knowledge, programming languages API familiarity.
• Advantageous skills include Office administration, Mimecast, Darktrace, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Intune, Azure AD, and security management.
