SENIOR INTERMEDIATE PHASE TEACHING POST VACANCY
Senior Intermediate Phase
The Winterberg School Trust is a deep rural school in the Eastern Cape offering education to learners from G rade RR to Grade 7. It is situated in a farming community 25 km outside of Tarkastad on the R344. The medium of instruction is English, with first additional language isiXhosa.
The Winterberg School Trust requires a qualified, experienced, and competent teacher to teach in the Senior/Intermediate Phase, with a focus on teaching Mathematics from grades five to seven.
Requirements
- Proven track record of excellent teaching over at least 2 years
- Knowledge of CAPS
- Experience in multi-grade education will be an advantage.
- Willingness to teach a multi-grade class if required.
- Desire to work with children from disadvantaged backgrounds
- Bachelor’s degree in Education (B.ED) or Bachelor’s degree and postgraduate certificate in Education (PGCE) – Intermediate / Senior Phase
- Experience in teaching Social Sciences, Mathematics and Languages in the Intermediate / Senior Phase
- SACE registered (kindly provide registration number and certificate on application)
- Be in possession of a valid Police Clearance certificate
- Commitment to ongoing personal academic and professional development
- Mental toughness that embraces the challenge of finding solutions to learning barriers within a challenging context
- Resilience and a willingness to work beyond the average hours
- Be a person of integrity, with strong interpersonal skills
- Have good verbal and written communication skills
- Computer literate and confident working with technology within the classroom and for lesson preparation
- Personal commitment to Christian Education and a willingness to contribute to the values and ethos of the school
Responsibilities
- Assist learners in applying concepts through classroom instruction and presentations, including students with barriers to learning
- Effective assessment strategies
- Manage the classroom to create a safe classroom atmosphere conducive to learning
- Positive and restorative approach to discipline
- Attend meetings, forums, and workshops as required
- To be responsible for all school equipment and stock under the control of the teacher and class
- Collaborate with teachers in different grades
- Coordinate suitable and innovative interventions and strategies to promote effective learning and teaching
- Attend all special occasions at the discretion of the Principal (This includes being available to attend parent meetings during the weekends)
The successful applicant must have:
- Strong personal values and actively supportive of the school’s Christian ethos.
- Be enthusiastic about working with young children from disadvantaged backgrounds
- Be able to work and cooperate in a professional team environment
- Be self-motivated and disciplined
- Have a valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP), or be willing to obtain a PDP
- Behave in a professional manner regarding punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and homework of learners
- Evaluate, reflect on and refine their teaching practice
