Responsibilities:

  • Deputise for the Principal Instrument Engineer when requested.
  • Responsible for the design and approval of all Instrument work on assigned projects.
  • Responsible for preparing and approving project-related standards and notes.
  • Ensure engineering activities are within budgeted manhours and schedules, compliant with project procedures, standards, and safety regulations.
  • Review and approve project schedules with the Project Engineer, ensuring realistic timelines.
  • Prepare and approve project-specific standards and specifications.
  • Reflect instrument requirements on project documents using ISA standards and symbology.
  • Prepare a project instrument index including instrument types and selections.
  • Prepare requisition index for Instrument work, updating monthly.
  • Check and approve Instrument drawing index.
  • Prepare and approve general notes requisitions for Instrumentation.
  • Design and requisition Instrumentation, including size and protection calculations.
  • Assist designers with Instrument drawings.
  • Review and approve Instrument drawings ensuring quality standards.
  • Prepare technical bid analysis for Instrumentation.
  • Attend coordination and review meetings with suppliers.
  • Review document requirements and assist Procurement with supplier document management.
  • Assist Procurement with expediting supplier documents.
  • Review and approve supplier documents for Instrumentation.
  • Review claims for scope increases with Procurement.
  • Guide clients and engineers on Instrument engineering matters and review package drawings.
  • Ensure completion of Instrument engineering operations per schedule and within manhours.
  • Advise on slippages, technical problems, and unresolved issues.
  • Develop and approve control/safety system requirements and philosophies.
  • Coordinate system FAT/SATs.
  • Coordinate with Procurement to meet schedules.
  • Notify Project Engineer of data deficiencies.
  • Provide progress reports as required.
  • Estimate costs for contract changes and alert on potential changes.
  • Follow up on Instrumentation construction work for correct installation interpretation.
  • Stay updated on developments in the field.
  • Suggest improvements for efficiency, costs, and service.
  • Assist in compiling operating manuals and catalogues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Instrument Engineer.
