Senior Insights Consultant

Department: Client Teams

Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Location: Johannesburg

Description: The Senior Insight Consultant is determined to activate change for great brands through a passion for data and consumer insights. They demonstrate their technical skills and are trusted to work independently on the design & analysis phase of smaller projects or parts of larger projects. They develop project management skills and are excellent communicators who get projects efficiently through all stages with the support of more senior people.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Management: You have a good understanding of and can independently set-up and organize the delivery of projects. You manage multiple smaller tactical projects while supporting larger strategic projects.
  2. You are expected to be a role model in collaborating with others throughout the project. When getting support from senior consultants for more complex projects, you can suggest solutions.
  3. You are actively involved in external project management by giving regular updates to clients on progress.
  4. Activity Design: You input into the brainstorming of hypotheses, discussing the best approach and ideas for capturing the data needed. You can translate the agreed approach, designing simple activity guides that need minimal reworking by senior consultants.
  5. Fieldwork: You are a confident moderator of 1-on-1 interviews and group discussions (both synchronous and asynchronous). You are capable of going beyond taking what people say at face value, laddering to understand the unspoken emotions that sit deeper. You can evaluate the status of survey fieldwork and make decisions facilitating fieldwork progress.
  6. Analysis and Reporting: You have a good understanding and experience of analyzing a range of different projects. You co-design final reports with guidance from senior consultants, structuring the report around a basic narrative. You co-design an analysis plan with guidance from a senior consultant, which you can also use to brief others.
  7. You can incorporate insights from other sources (e.g., desk research) with primary research to understand the bigger picture.
  8. Presenting: You support senior colleagues with client presentations and take first steps in client presentations by presenting a chapter of the report.
  9. Account Management: You are the main point of contact for clients on simpler projects, with adequate support from senior consultants. You are a point of contact on larger, more complex projects with support from other consultants.
  10. You can see how the projects you are working on contribute to the wider objectives of the client.
  11. Commercial Management: You become aware of the full range of our portfolio and proactively research and understand your clients' business and the sector in which they operate (news, trends, competitors, challenges). You are becoming aware of project financials to ensure the budget is kept by managing the time you spend on projects.

You attend sales meetings in a supportive role and gain confidence about being able to tell the bigger picture yourself.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise:

A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., social sciences, psychology, business, or economics). At least 1-2 years of experience as a researcher, working in other research or consulting companies.
