Job summary

Sol Plaatje University in South Africa seeks a Senior Project Manager to lead end-to-end delivery of major infrastructure projects within the Infrastructure Project Management Office, contributing to the 2026–2030 Infrastructure Development Plan.

You will ensure projects are on time, on budget, and meet quality, safety, and governance requirements, coordinate with consultants and contractors, and report to the Director of the Infrastructure Project Management Office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Built Environment or relevant field (Architecture, Civil, Structural, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or Project Management).
• Post graduate qualification (NQF8) would be an advantage.
• Professional registration with one of SACAP, ECSA, SACQSP, or SACPCMP, or Candidate registration with path to Professional registration.
• Project Management Professional certification, or an equivalent project management certification, will be an added advantage.
• A minimum of eight (8) years’ project management experience in the built environment, with demonstrated responsibility for managing major or large-scale capital projects.
• A proven track record of delivering complex infrastructure projects on time and within budget.
• Experience in public sector or institutional infrastructure projects, including compliance with procurement processes would be advantageous.
• Sound understanding of JBCC, NEC and GCC contracts and delivery management frameworks.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary project teams and coordinating with professional consultants.
• Proficiency in project management and scheduling software, and the Microsoft Office suite.

Responsibilities

• Strategy Development and Execution: Actively support the Director in achieving strategic objectives.
• Project Delivery: Manage major infrastructure projects from conception through design, procurement, construction and handover.
• Develop and maintain detailed project programmes, budgets and cash flow forecasts.
• Monitor progress against time, cost and quality targets and elevate risks to the Director.
• Ensure compliance with Infrastructure Delivery Management requirements, norms, standards and approved specifications.
• Manage contract administration and coordination with architects, engineers and consultants.
