Job summary

ATS Client is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to design, implement, and maintain high-availability Linux-based systems supporting critical production environments in Pretoria. The role covers on‑premise and cloud platforms, with emphasis on security, resilience, and scalability.

You will install and manage SUSE/RHEL/Ubuntu servers, script for automation, monitor systems, and lead HA setups with Veritas Infoscale, while collaborating across on‑call rotas and project teams.

Qualifications

  • Strong Unix/Linux experience (SUSE, RHEL, Ubuntu)
  • Scripting proficiency in Bash, Python, Perl
  • Experience with High Availability systems (Veritas Infoscale)
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools (Nagios, Grafana)
  • Networking knowledge (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, SSH)
  • Basic Oracle and SAP environment familiarity

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain Unix/Linux servers
  • Monitor performance and troubleshoot infrastructure issues
  • Apply updates, patches, and security fixes
  • Manage high availability environments
  • Deploy and operate workloads on AWS and Azure
  • Maintain system and operational documentation

We are seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to design, implement, and maintain high‑availability Linux‑based systems supporting critical production environments. The role focuses on delivering secure, resilient, and scalable infrastructure solutions across on‑premise and cloud platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, and maintain Unix/Linux servers (SUSE, RHEL, Ubuntu)
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot infrastructure issues
  • Apply system updates, patches, and security fixes
  • Manage and support high availability environments (e.g. Veritas Infoscale)
  • Deploy and operate workloads on AWS and Azure
  • Maintain system and operational documentation
  • Ensure compliance with security standards and internal policies
  • Manage Incident, Problem, and Change processes (ITSM)
  • Track and update tasks and user stories (e.g. Jira)
  • Support system stability and operational standards
  • Participate in operational meetings and team coordination
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members
  • Participate in standby and weekend support when required
Requirements
Essential Skills
  • Strong experience with Unix/Linux (especially SUSE)
  • Proficiency in scripting (Bash, Python, Perl)
  • Experience with High Availability systems (e.g. Veritas Infoscale)
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools (e.g. Nagios, Grafana)
  • Understanding of networking (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, SSH)
  • Basic knowledge of Oracle and SAP environments

Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree in Information Systems or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in IT operations
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in configuration management & automation
  • Strong scripting and automation experience (Bash, PowerShell)
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure)
  • Version control experience (GitHub)
Nice to have:
  • Linux certifications (e.g. RHCSA)
  • Ansible / RHCE certifications
  • Experience with Dynatrace, ServiceNow, Red Hat Satellite
