A leading company is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to oversee the Physical Data Centre Infrastructure in Johannesburg. This role focuses on ensuring the availability and reliability of data centre operations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing infrastructure, leading technical teams, and executing innovative solutions in a 24/7 environment. Our client is requiring a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to manage the Physical Data Centre Infrastructure (Vmware and SAN).
The purpose of this role is to help ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels of data centre operations.
The successful candidate must have experience creating / devising strategies, mentoring people at all levels, sponsoring projects, and proposing technical solutions. This position involves leading teams in Server Support, VMware support, SAN / Array Support, Backup support, and Linux, support

Duties and Responsibilities
Management of the servers
Ensure that servers have the appropriate Firmware and Drivers installed and up to date
Ensure that servers are monitored for performance and uptime
Set up and configure storage devices
Do routine maintenance on storage devices
Upgrade Storage device firmware
Management of all disks
Ensure that a process for obtaining and installing replacement parts is created and implemented
Ensure that disks are monitored for performance and integrity
Ensure SAN replication takes place
Create and / or regularly update a backup and restore procedure and policy
Maintain a record of system backup frequencies and backup times
Perform regular tests of the ability to restore backed-up data
Ensure backups conform to best practice retention cycles
Ensure All critical Business systems are replicated at DR
Manage Infrastructure DR Plan
Manage DR Datacentre availability and stability
Manage DR connectivity
Manage DR capacity
Define and regularly review SLA with affected business users
All aspects within VMware
Ensure all infrastructure facilities are secure
Manage environmental monitoring
Create and / or regularly update a capacity management process and procedure
Regular review of capacity management monitoring results
Implementation of appropriate actions to address findings of capacity management monitoring
Hardware diagnostics followed by physical repair and participation in an on-call rotation
Leading teams in Server Support, VMware support, SAN / Array Support, Backup support, and Linux support.
Participate in site-level project work and fix complex problems
Create documentation, innovate solutions, participate in site-level project work, and fix complex problems within the Data Center Space.
Minimum Requirements
A bachelor’s degree or Equivalent IT Qualification or Diploma
SAN Certified
Vmware Certified
Server Support
Storage Support
Minimum 7+ Years Working Experience
5+ years of experience in a technical environment.
5+ years' experience in participating in on-call rotations, and providing after-hours support in an environment that operates 24 / 7
5+ years of experience with Computer hardware and Data Centres.
5+ Years working on Vmware or storage environments
Experience in people management, a strong technical understanding
Strong knowledge of Data Centres and hardware repair
Willing to work extended hours
Willing to travel
