Job description

We are currently looking for a Senior Import Controller with a Logistics background.

Minimum Requirements :

  • Matric / Grade 12 (Essential)
  • Diploma or qualification in Supply Chain Management / International Trade (Advantageous)
  • Minimum 6+ years in import control / logistics, with a focus on customs and compliance
  • Strong knowledge of SARS Customs, Shipping Incoterms, and international trade procedures
  • Proficient in MS Office, ERP systems, Syspro, or similar (e.g., Sage, Evolution, Pastel, SAP, Syspro Proteus, TPT Navis appointment booking system, TPT Navis Information)

  • Experience with Mix-telematics, Car Track, Cargo-wise, and freight portals

Key Responsibilities :

  • Manage the full import cycle (sea, air, and road freight), including document preparation, customs clearance, and delivery coordination
  • Liaise with suppliers, shipping lines, freight forwarders, and clearing agents to ensure timely and cost-effective movement of goods
  • Ensure all import documentation is correct and compliant (e.g., commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, SAD 500s, import permits)
  • Monitor shipments and provide regular status updates to internal teams and clients
  • Resolve delays, demurrage, customs queries, and discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Maintain accurate import records in accordance with SARS and customs requirements
  • Calculate landed costs accurately and update costing systems
  • Assist with tariff classification and ensure proper application of customs duties and rebates
  • Supervise and support junior import clerks/controllers (if applicable)
  • Monitor and report on KPIs such as lead times, costs, and compliance issues
  • Stay up to date with changes in import regulations, Incoterms, and relevant legislation
