Placements24 in Cape Town, Western Cape, ZA, is seeking a Senior AI Ethics and Governance Specialist to shape the company’s responsible AI strategy. You will develop and oversee ethics frameworks, advise product teams, and engage stakeholders to ensure compliance with evolving global regulations.

The role offers a flexible hybrid work model balancing remote work with in-office collaboration. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in AI ethics or governance and a strong policy/communication background

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Philosophy, Law, Public Policy, or Data Ethics.
• 5+ years of experience in AI ethics, governance, responsible AI, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of machine learning concepts and the AI development lifecycle.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing ethical frameworks and governance structures.
• In-depth knowledge of current and emerging AI regulations and ethical considerations.
• Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment, balancing remote and in-office collaboration.
• Experience in policy development and stakeholder engagement is highly desirable.
• Strong ethical compass and commitment to responsible technology development.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive AI ethics policies, guidelines, and governance frameworks.
• Conduct ethical risk assessments and impact analyses for new AI products and features.
• Advise AI development teams on best practices for fairness, bias mitigation, transparency, and accountability.
• Monitor AI systems for ethical compliance and performance against established standards.
• Stay informed about global AI regulations, standards, and ethical best practices, providing guidance on compliance.
• Develop training programs and educational materials on AI ethics for various internal audiences.
• Collaborate with legal, compliance, engineering, and product teams to embed ethical considerations throughout the AI lifecycle.
• Engage with external stakeholders, including regulators and industry bodies, on AI ethics and governance matters.
• Facilitate cross-functional discussions and workshops on AI ethics topics.
• Contribute to the company's thought leadership in the field of AI ethics and responsible innovation.
