The Opportunity

Our UKIMEA region is seeking a Senior HSEQ Business Partner for our South Africa offices. The role involves leading, establishing, implementing, coordinating, and championing activities related to the Health, Safety, Wellbeing, and Quality Management Systems across our offices in Cape Town, Durban, and Johannesburg, as well as project locations. This senior operational role offers the opportunity to shape and influence practices and outcomes, requiring strong communication, influencing, and collaboration skills. The role involves daily interaction with project managers, directors, and leaders, working with regional and global HSEQ teams. Responsibilities include training, reporting, auditing, continuous improvement, and promoting a positive safety culture at all levels.

Health, Safety, and Wellbeing
  • Promote a culture of care where safety is everyone's responsibility, advising and coaching leadership on health, safety, and wellbeing.
  • Assist project teams in establishing health and safety arrangements, including plans, procedures, and systems.
  • Provide technical H&S input into new bids, helping project teams identify appropriate H&S resources.
  • Champion design safety by partnering with project teams to integrate safety frameworks into designs.
  • Offer health and safety advice and risk management services to ensure legislative compliance, including supporting the appointment and training of Principal Designers and Design Safety Advisors.
  • Provide consistent safety advice for bids and projects.
  • Develop, implement, and review H&S processes and deliverables, such as risk assessments, management plans, and frameworks to ensure safe systems of work.
  • Lead investigations into serious incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Quality Management
  • Deliver quality work using our management systems and quality checks.
  • Support internal audits and inspections, leading on complex or high-risk audits as needed.
  • Consolidate audit findings across regions, present insights to leadership, and lead discussions on mitigation strategies.
  • Establish assurance programs for projects, including conducting H&S audits and inspections to ensure safe practices and compliance.
  • Manage governance processes related to subcontractor and consultant H&S roles.

Candidate Profile

We seek candidates with:

  • Senior-level experience in professional services or the built environment in a Quality, H&S, or Environmental role.
  • Professional qualifications in at least one discipline: Quality, H&S, or Environmental Management.
  • Lead auditor certifications in ISO 9001, ISO 45001, or ISO 14001.
  • NEBOSH International General Certificate.
  • A positive, collaborative attitude.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A methodical yet flexible approach.
  • Management skills with a hands-on style.
  • Attention to detail with focus on outcomes.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

The following credentials are preferred:

  • Chartered status or registration in Quality, H&S, or Environmental fields.
