Job description

Moving your career forward

Our CEO, Angus spotted that many vans on the roads are half full or empty at any given time and so AnyVan was born in 2009 to create the world's most efficient technology logistics platform and help halve the number of miles driven.

We've achieved incredible milestones since then, including securing the largest funding round for a UK tech logistics company from Vitruvian Partners. Today, AnyVan is the largest and fastest-growing company in the logistics space, with big ambitions for the future.

We're committed to moving that's miles better and have helped over 8 million customers across the UK, Ireland and Europe (France, Germany, Italy, Spain) and over 150,000 customers have rated us excellent on Trustpilot.

By using innovative technology, we're transforming the moving experience, cutting costs and doing our part for the planet to make sure moving doesn't cost the earth. We've saved enough miles to travel 1,185 times around the world, reduce 8520 tonnes of carbon annually and are proud to be the only carbon neutral removals and delivery company in the UK!!!

We're looking for passionate individuals to join our talented team of approx. 300 AnyVanners in our London and Cape Town offices. If you're as driven as we are and want to be part of a forward-thinking company to make moving 'miles better' and moving your career forward at the same time - we'd love to hear from you!

We’re a dynamic people team that makes sure AnyVan is a great place to work through placing our people at the heart of everything we do.

With 2 in HR and 3 in talent we work collaboratively to oversee all people activities across multiple locations (UK, Europe, South Africa). Highly visible within the business (and we like to think well loved) - we pride ourselves on the relationships we’ve built and our position as trusted partners for managers and colleagues alike.

What you'll be doing:

  • Be the go-to HR expert for all people matters, offering advice, guidance, and support with a focus on practical, business-aligned solutions.

  • Provide everyday HR support managing the full employee journey, from onboarding, to off boarding and everything in between.

  • Be the escalation point for the tricky stuff, whether it’s absence issues, flexible working requests, performance challenges, disciplinaries, grievances, providing hands-on resolution and support.

  • Oversee payroll for the UK and South Africa, ensuring it’s accurate, on time, and fully compliant, no surprises.

  • Handle benefits admin end-to-end for both the UK and South Africa, making sure employees understand and can access what’s available to them.

  • Work closely with managers and teams to help drive strong performance and make sure everyone is set up to succeed.

  • Keep us compliant in South Africa, covering everything from BBBEE and payroll to benefits, performance reviews, and compensation checks.

  • Team up with the Head of HR to build the skills and culture we need, helping shape AnyVan into a place where people genuinely want to work and grow.

  • Stay on top of the numbers, digging into key business metrics, pulling together useful reports, spotting trends, and sharing insights that help the business make better decisions.

  • Work with other teams to keep improving how we do things, finding ways to streamline, automate, and add value wherever we can.

Experience we think you'll need to be successful in the role;

  • Hands-on HR experience (5-7yrs ideally) in small, fast-moving, high-growth businesses, where you’ve had to roll up your sleeves and make things happen.

  • A HR business partnering background, with a proven track record of handling and resolving a wide range of employee relations (ER) matters and helping boost engagement across teams.

  • Good working knowledge of South African employment law, knowing how to apply it practically in real-world situations.

  • Good grasp of HR systems and tools, with an eye for how to get the most out of them, whether it’s automation, reporting, or improving the employee experience.

  • Solution-focused and action-oriented, you know how to deliver meaningful, high-impact work at pace, without getting bogged down.

  • Great communicator, able to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels. whether you’re speaking with senior leaders or front-line teams.

  • Commercially minded, you enjoy backing things up with the numbers. You understand key people and culture metrics and, importantly, how to measure and interpret them to support the business.

  • Exceptional attention to detail, plus the ability to juggle multiple priorities and stay organised in a busy, fast-changing environment.

  • The ability to commute to our offices in the Central Business District 3-5 days a week

  • A strong alignment with our company values and able to make an impact!

Bonus points if you have:

  • Exposure to UK and European law.

  • Good understanding Sage Payroll (SA) and Payfit (UK)
