Malander is seeking a seasoned Chartered Accountant SA to hold the position of a Senior Head of Financial Control and Reporting. The ideal candidate will be expected to lead and manage the bank’s financial control and external/internal financial reporting functions, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial information that supports decision-making, regulatory submissions, and stakeholder transparency. The role will oversee financial governance, integrity of the general ledger, financial reporting processes, and ensure adherence to IFRS, local banking regulations, and internal policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Control
- Own and manage the general ledger and trial balance integrity.
- Oversee the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts.
- Ensure reconciliations of key accounts are performed accurately and timeously.
- Maintain robust financial controls, policies, and procedures to mitigate risk.
- Drive the implementation of improvements in financial systems and reporting processes.
- Ensure accurate application of accounting standards (IFRS) and banking-specific reporting requirements
Financial Reporting
- Prepare annual and interim financial statements compliant with IFRS and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with external auditors to facilitate a smooth year-end audit and interim reviews.
- Produce statutory returns and regulatory submissions (e.g., BA returns, SARB reports, Prudential Authority reports) ensuring full compliance and accuracy.
- Consolidate group financials if part of a banking group structure.
- Support the CFO in presenting financial results to the Board, Audit Committee, and regulators.
Regulatory and Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with banking regulations and accounting standards.
- Maintain awareness of changes in regulations and accounting standards and assess their impact on the Bank.
- Prepare reports for regulatory bodies as required and manage regulatory inspections where applicable.
Internal Reporting and Insights
- Develop and deliver accurate and insightful financial reports to support business units.
- Prepare variance analysis, commentary, and insights to facilitate strategic decision-making.
- Monitor and analyse key financial KPIs and assist with forecasting and budgeting processes.
Leadership and Stakeholder Management
- Manage a team of finance professionals, providing leadership, coaching, and performance management.
- Act as a finance business partner across departments including Risk, Treasury, Credit, and Operations.
- Foster a culture of strong financial discipline and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Qualified CA(SA) / Chartered Accountant or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience in financial control and/or reporting within a banking or financial services environment.
- Strong understanding of South African banking regulatory landscape
- Previous experience liaising with regulators and external auditors.
- Experience in managing financial audits and statutory reporting processes.
- Exposure to IFRS 9 (Financial Instruments) accounting essential.
- Knowledge of tax, VAT, and banking treasury operations is advantageous.
