Purpose:
The Senior Graphic Designer is the accountable owner of the Carrol Boyes brand identity and design strategy, and the quality gate between the design team's output and the business. This role sets the design standards, helps lead and develops the in-house design team, and is one of the design points of contact for the Head of Marketing, reducing the need for every piece of creative work to be reviewed directly by the Head of Marketing before it reaches the business.
Reports to: Head of Marketing.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
Creative Leadership & Strategy
- Drive design and creative strategy for marketing & communication across all platforms, campaigns and projects
- Translate the Carrol Boyes business strategy into design direction and big-picture creative thinking
- Drive consistency, innovation and freshness in design delivery across the team
- Build credibility in design by championing quality and innovation across all projects
- Own commercial mindfulness across the team's output, ensuring concepts work for the target market and remain cost-effective
Team Leadership
- Assist in leading and managing the design team, ensuring delivery aligns with brand strategy and company requirements
- Review junior and mid-weight designer work
- Guide mid-weight designers on design principles, industry standards and best practice
- Manage project prioritisation across the junior design team
- Ensure an effective internal team process is in place
- Anticipate project issues before they arise
Brand & Quality Control
- Assisting in managing the creation and implementation of CI across the business
- Ensure all CI updates are effectively communicated to the business
- Ensure compliance of all creative material with the Carrol Boyes brand identity is met.
- Provide quality control over concepts and projects to ensure brand alignment and consistency
- Assist in managing the creative development process and take ownership of quality assurance across all personal design projects
- Check and ensure accuracy of all artworks across the team, reviewing both copy and layout
- Ensure proof, production and press checks are reviewed before sign-off
Delivery & Stakeholder Management
- Document and input design elements of briefs for internal, digital, ATL and BTL campaigns
- Deliver world-class, innovative campaigns and designs
- Ensure the design team delivers on budget, on time and to a high standard against critical timelines
- Ensure compliance with brief, strategic direction and time allocation; keep the Head of Marketing updated on all requirements
- Review and approve key project work prior to submitting to the Head of Marketing for sign-off, ahead of Business submission and presentations
- Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders
Key Requirements
- 3-year Graphic Design Degree/Diploma (Essential)
- 5-8+ years' design experience, including proven leadership/mentoring experience (Essential)
- Experience in packaging design (Essential)
- Proven track record executing marketing projects from concept to production (Essential)
- Agency experience (Essential)
- Interactive media experience (Essential)Design for print, digital and OOH (Essential)
- Photography (Desirable)
- Animation (Desirable)
- Advanced knowledge and proficiency in the Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
- Strong knowledge of marketing communication media processes
- Deep knowledge of Carrol Boyes products and brand
- Advanced knowledge of creative and graphic design principles
