Job description

Job Purpose

Capturing and maintaining a fully connected high, medium and low voltage electrical network and communication network, in a Geographic Information System (GIS), and dissemination of the electrical network and associated attribute data.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Capturing and maintaining a spatial representation of eThekwini Electricity (EE) assets and equipment in the Enterprise GIS.
  • Utilising mapping techniques to maintain a fully connected geometric network of the EE network reticulation infrastructure, in an electric specific enterprise domain geodatabase.
  • Providing technical information and copies of records to assist when equipment failures or when faults occur in the network.
  • Importing surveyed infrastructure data into the GIS to enhance the spatial accuracy of the electrical data and support structures.
  • Addressing all internal and external customer queries on the electrical network infrastructure.
  • Liaising with depot Superintendents, Clerk of Works, Planning Engineers, Network Control Technicians and Electricians at the works branches to verify the correctness of the assets and connectivity in the GIS.
  • Analysing various GIS datasets to identify inconsistencies in the connected network reticulation dataset.
  • Assisting with the maintenance of the system stored templates and providing input for data model changes in GIS.
  • Providing input for the creation and maintenance of the Branches Standard Operating Procedures and training manuals.
  • Conducting research into the location and GIS attribute data of overhead, underground and substation infrastructure, when there are data discrepancies.

  • Essential Requirements

  • Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Cartography or Geo Information science and Technology or
  • Geoinformatics or equivalent.

  • First Aid Certificate or to be obtained within 6 months from date of appointment.
  • Valid motor vehicle driving license.
  • Must be certified competent to enter substation and live enclosures.
  • 4 Years relevant experience.
  • Preferred Requirements

  • Degree (NQF Level 7) Cartography or Geo Information science and Technology or
  • Geoinformatics or equivalent.

  • Software certificate
  • Valid First Aid Certificate.
  • 5 Years relevant experience.
