About the Role

Our client, a leading geotechnical and environmental engineering firm, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Geotechnical Project Manager to join their team in Mahikeng, North West . This role is crucial for managing complex geotechnical projects from inception to completion, ensuring technical excellence, client satisfaction, and project profitability. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in geotechnical engineering, coupled with proven project management skills and a deep understanding of site investigations, foundation design, and earthworks. You will be responsible for leading project teams, managing client relationships, and ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards. This position offers a significant opportunity to influence major development projects in the Mahikeng region.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of geotechnical projects, managing scope, budget, and schedule.
• Lead and coordinate geotechnical site investigations, including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing.
• Manage the analysis and interpretation of geotechnical data and the development of design recommendations for foundations, slopes, and earthworks.
• Prepare and review comprehensive geotechnical reports, proposals, and technical specifications.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing regular project updates and ensuring client satisfaction.
• Manage project risks, identify potential issues, and implement effective mitigation strategies.
• Ensure that all projects comply with relevant engineering standards, regulations, and health and safety requirements.
• Supervise and mentor junior geotechnical engineers and project staff, fostering their professional development.
• Manage subconsultants and contractors involved in project delivery.
• Contribute to business development activities, including client engagement and proposal preparation.
• Ensure profitability and successful financial management of assigned projects.

Requirements

• BEng or BSc in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering.
• Professional registration as Pr.Eng with ECSA is required.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering, with at least 3 years in a project management role.
• Demonstrated experience in managing a variety of geotechnical projects, from infrastructure to building developments.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, foundation engineering, and slope stability analysis.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software is advantageous.
• Excellent project management skills, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and risk management.
• Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
• Proficiency in contract management and financial oversight of projects.
