Placements24 is seeking a Lead Geotechnical Engineer for Upington, Northern Cape. You will oversee all geotechnical investigations, analyses, and designs for major energy and mining infrastructure projects.

The role requires 10+ years of progressive geotechnical experience, Pr. Eng registration, and expertise with PLAXIS, GeoStudio, and slope/water analysis. Travel to project sites is expected, with a focus on safety and engineering integrity.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering or closely related field.
• Minimum 10 years of progressive geotechnical experience in infrastructure projects within energy/mining sectors.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) registration with ECSA or equivalent.
• Proven leadership of geotechnical teams and large projects.
• Expertise with PLAXIS, GeoStudio, SLOPE/W and SEEP/W.

Responsibilities

• Lead geotechnical aspects from concept to completion for energy and mining projects.
• Develop and implement geotechnical investigation plans and data analyses.
• Perform advanced analyses including slope stability, foundation design and seismic assessment.
• Prepare reports, specifications and design drawings for approvals and construction.
• Mentor and supervise a team of geotechnical engineers and technicians.
• Engage with clients, contractors and regulators to ensure requirements are met.
• Oversee quality control and assurance of geotechnical deliverables.
• Conduct risk assessments and mitigation for geotechnical hazards.
• Stay updated with industry developments and technologies.
