About the Role

About the Role Our client, a leading player in the mining sector, is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join their dynamic team in Johannesburg, Gauteng, ZA . This pivotal role involves providing expert geotechnical advice and solutions to support the safe and efficient operation of their open-pit mining activities. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the stability of mine excavations, slope designs, and infrastructure, contributing directly to project success and operational integrity. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geotechnical investigations, including site characterization, data analysis, and interpretation for open-pit mine design.
• Develop and implement ground support strategies, slope stability assessments, and recommendations for open-pit mines.
• Utilize advanced geotechnical software for modeling and analysis of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and hydrogeology.
• Provide technical guidance and supervision to junior engineers and technical staff.
• Collaborate with mine planning, operations, and design teams to integrate geotechnical considerations into mine plans.
• Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports, design documents, and presentations for project stakeholders.
• Monitor geotechnical performance, including instrumentation data analysis, and recommend remedial actions as needed.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, environmental, and industry regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering, with a significant focus on open-pit mining .
• Proven expertise in slope stability analysis, rock mechanics, and mine design.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software such as Slide, Rocscience suite (RocFall, Dips, UnWedge), FLAC, or similar.
• Strong understanding of geological data acquisition, interpretation, and geotechnical logging.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to effectively present complex technical information.
• Professional Engineer (PrEng) registration or eligibility is highly desirable.
• Experience with mine dewatering and groundwater modeling is an advantage.
