Placements24 seeks a Senior Geologist to lead exploration efforts in the Northern Cape. The role focuses on geological mapping, data interpretation, and target generation, with extensive fieldwork from Kimberley-based operations.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Geology, Economic Geology, or related Earth Science field.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in mineral exploration.
• Experience in exploring for commodities relevant to the Northern Cape (e.g., base metals, precious metals, industrial minerals).
• Expertise in geological mapping, structural geology, and core logging.
• Proficiency with geological modeling software and GIS platforms.
• Strong understanding of geochemical and geophysical exploration methods.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting and presentations.
• Ability to work independently and manage field teams in remote locations.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to undertake extensive fieldwork.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geological mapping and structural analysis in exploration areas.
• Log diamond drill core and RC chips, identifying lithology, alteration, and mineralization.
• Integrate geological, geochemical, and geophysical data to develop exploration models.
• Identify and prioritize drill targets based on geological interpretation.
• Prepare detailed geological reports, cross-sections, and resource estimates.
• Collaborate with exploration managers and stakeholders to define exploration strategies.
• Manage exploration fieldwork, including camp logistics and safety protocols.
• Utilize geological modeling software (Leapfrog, Vulcan) for data visualization and interpretation.
• Stay updated on new exploration techniques and geological concepts.
• Mentor junior geologists and foster a collaborative team environment.

About the Role

Our client, a dynamic mining and exploration company operating in the Northern Cape region, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Geologist to join their exploration team. This role is pivotal in discovering and evaluating new mineral deposits, focusing on areas rich in valuable resources. You will be responsible for geological mapping, structural analysis, core logging, and the interpretation of exploration data to guide resource definition. This is an on-site position requiring significant fieldwork, based out of our client's operational hub near Kimberley .
