Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Geologist near Benoni, Gauteng, to lead mineral exploration programs targeting gold, PGM, and base metals. You will oversee fieldwork, mapping, logging, and data interpretation while collaborating with geophysicists, geochemists, and mining engineers to grow the company’s resource portfolio.

The role requires 8+ years in mineral exploration, strong modeling and GIS skills, and readiness to travel to remote SA sites. A Master’s in Economic Geology is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geology or Earth Sciences.
• Master's degree in Economic Geology is highly desirable.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive mineral exploration experience with a proven track record.
• Strong knowledge of gold, PGMs, and base metal deposits.
• Proficiency with Leapfrog or Vulcan modeling software.
• Experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS.
• Strong field geology, mapping, and core logging skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to remote sites in South Africa.

Responsibilities

• Plan, design, and manage mineral exploration programs including fieldwork and sampling.
• Conduct geological mapping and structural analysis of prospective areas.
• Log drill core and samples identifying lithology and mineralization features.
• Integrate geochemical and geophysical data to identify targets.
• Develop 3D geological models and resource estimates.
• Collaborate with geophysicists and geochemists to optimize strategies.
• Manage drilling contractors and ensure efficient execution.
• Contribute to technical evaluations of prospects and acquisitions.
• Ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.
• Prepare geological reports, presentations, and memoranda.
• Mentor junior geologists and field staff.
