Vista Group seeks a hands-on Senior Full Stack Developer – Team Lead in Cape Town. You’ll split 30% BE and 70% FE, leading a talented team to deliver best‑in‑class cinema websites globally.

You’ll own features, collaborate with Product Owners, BAs, and PMs, and champion quality through code reviews and peer programming. You’ll develop UI with React/TypeScript/HTML/CSS, build APIs, ensure cross-browser compatibility, and guide the team in Agile SDLC.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of web full stack development experience, ideally in commercial/ecommerce
  • Experience leading, mentoring or coaching software engineers
  • Strong React, JavaScript, TypeScript, SCSS/CSS & ES6 skills
  • Strong C#, ASP.Net MVC with Angular exposure a plus
  • Experience with REST API design/integration and cross-browser issues

Responsibilities

  • Lead a Team in a 70/30 FE/BE split to deliver features and projects

Job description

This is a hands-on Senior Full Stack Developer – Team Lead role, with a 30% BE / 70% FE split. You’ll work alongside, and lead, a talented team providing the best-in‑class, custom cinema websites worldwide.

Using your extensive experience with React.js, TypeScript, .Net, CSS/SCSS, REST APIs, you will own features and projects, collaborating with wider stakeholders such as Product Owners, Business Analysts, and Engineering Managers, with a focus on continuous improvement.

Experienced with modern Agile software development, you will advocate team quality and productivity through peer programming, code reviews, and of course your own development, producing a code base that is high quality, maintainable and always maturing.

Alongside your hands‑on engineering responsibilities, you’ll also provide people leadership for your team, supporting engineers through regular one-to-ones, feedback, career development, performance conversations, and day‑to‑day coaching, helping to create a healthy, capable, and highly autonomous team.

About the role
  • Work heavily with front-end frameworks and libraries, such as React, JavaScript, HTML, Typescript, SCSS/CSS & ES6 Vanilla Javascript
  • Develop user interfaces and user experiences using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Implement responsive web design to ensure optimal user experience across various devices and screen sizes
  • Ensure cross-browser compatibility and address performance issues
  • Build server-side applications using programming languages like Node.js, Python, Ruby, Java, or PHP
  • Develop and integrate APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) for seamless communication between front-end and back-end systems
  • Implement authentication and authorization mechanisms to secure web applications
  • Optimize server-side performance and troubleshoot issues
  • Use version control systems like Git to manage and track changes in code
  • Collaborate with team members on code repositories, resolving conflicts and ensuring code quality
  • Deliver new and maintain existing features on the Umbraco-backed CMS
  • Deploy web applications to hosting platforms or servers
  • Configure and maintain web servers, ensuring optimal performance and security
  • Implement continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for automated testing and deployment
  • Write and maintain automated tests to ensure code quality
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including designers, product managers, and other developers
  • Provide day-to-day people leadership for the team, including regular one-to-ones, coaching, feedback, career development, wellbeing support, and performance management
  • Build a healthy, inclusive, and accountable team environment that supports high autonomy and effective collaboration
  • Provide leadership visibility into team health, capacity, capability, and emerging people risks
  • Join the on-call support roster during holiday periods
About you
  • 6+ years' web full stack development experience ideally in a commercial and/or ecommerce organization
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or coaching software engineers
  • Strong level React, JavaScript, HTML, Typescript, SCSS/CSS & ES6 Vanilla Javascript
  • Strong C#, ASP.Net MVC, ReactJs, with Angular exposure a plus
  • Advanced web development including AJAX, SPA, SEO, cross-browser, various JS frameworks, REST API design / integration, CSS including server-side pre-processing such as LESS, SASS
  • Strong SQL Server
  • Experience working with CMS, Umbraco preferred
  • Experience with Windows Server / IIS
  • Experience working within an Agile SDLC
  • Ability to build trust, provide clear feedback, and support meaningful career-development conversations
  • Ability to set clear expectations while enabling engineers to work with a high degree of autonomy

This is a hybrid role with a home and office-based split, requiring regular weekly (2 days per week) attendance in the Cape Town office.
