IGrow Wealth Investments Group of Companies, proudly positioned as South Africa’s #1 Investment company, is seeking a Senior Front-End Engineer to join our team in Durbanville, Cape Town.
The Senior Frontend Engineer is a hands-on senior engineering role responsible for creating high-quality, scalable and intuitive user experiences across IGrow's digital products. The role combines strong React and TypeScript engineering with UI architecture, accessibility, performance, design-system thinking, testing, code quality
and technical leadership.
Minimum requirements (Advantageous):
- Bachelor's Degree (BSc) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field.
- Minimum 3-5 years experience and must have react and typescript
Duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Design, build and maintain production-grade web applications using React and TypeScript.
- Translate product requirements, workflows and visual designs into responsive, accessible and polished user experiences.
- Own frontend architecture for major features, including component boundaries, state management, data flow, routing, permissions and error handling.
- Build reusable components and contribute to a consistent shared component library / design system rather than duplicating UI patterns.
- Integrate frontend applications with REST and event-driven APIs, handling loading, retries, errors, pagination, optimistic updates and partial failure cleanly.
- Write maintainable HTML and modern CSS, with strong understanding of responsive layout, Flexbox, Grid, browser behaviour, theming and design tokens.
- Ensure frontend functionality works consistently across supported browsers, screen sizes and device classes.
- Implement appropriate automated tests and participate in release validation, regression testing and defect prevention.
- Identify and resolve performance issues including unnecessary renders, large bundles, slow network interactions and inefficient data-fetching patterns.
- Build secure interfaces that respect authentication, authorisation, session management and least-privilege principles.
- Work closely with Product, Design, Backend, Data and AI engineers to deliver complete end-to-end features.
- Review pull requests, improve coding standards and provide practical technical guidance to other frontend engineers.
- Contribute to estimation, sprint planning, technical design, documentation and continuous improvement of the engineering process.
- Take responsibility for production quality: monitor issues, investigate root causes and improve the product rather than applying repeated short-term fixes.
React & TypeScript
- Strong professional experience with React and modern functional component patterns.
- Advanced TypeScript: interfaces/types, generics, discriminated unions, narrowing, utility types and type-safe API contracts.
- Hooks, context, composition patterns, controlled/uncontrolled components and reusable component APIs.
- Understanding of rendering behaviour, memoisation, lifecycle effects, state ownership and avoiding unnecessary re-renders.
HTML & CSS
- Semantic HTML5 and a strong understanding of browser layout and rendering.
- Modern CSS including Flexbox, Grid, responsive design, media/container queries, CSS variables and maintainable styling conventions.
- Ability to reproduce high-fidelity product designs while preserving responsiveness and accessibility.
- Comfort with CSS Modules, styled solutions or utility frameworks where appropriate, without depending on a framework to understand CSS.
State, Data & Application Architecture
- Strong judgement on local state versus shared/application state.
- Experience with server-state/data-fetching patterns such as TanStack Query / React Query or equivalent.
- Experience with a suitable client state approach such as Zustand, Redux Toolkit, Context or equivalent when genuinely required.
- Clean API integration, schema validation, typed contracts, caching, invalidation, pagination and asynchronous error handling.
Testing & Quality
- Unit and component testing using tools such as Vitest/Jest and React Testing Library.
- End-to-end testing with Playwright, Cypress or equivalent for critical user journeys.
- Ability to design code for testability rather than adding tests as an afterthought.
- Strong debugging skills using browser developer tools, network inspection, performance profiling and source maps.
