Placements24 is seeking a Senior Formulations Chemist to join its cosmetics R&D team on a fully remote basis. You will lead development of skincare, haircare, and color cosmetics, working with global teams to drive concept, testing, scale-up, and launch.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in cosmetic formulation, strong analytical skills (HPLC, GC-MS, viscometry), and deep regulatory understanding. A remote-first culture supports independent work and scientific rigor.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize innovative formulations for skincare, haircare, and color cosmetics, ensuring stability, efficacy, and sensory appeal.
• Conduct thorough research into new raw materials, active ingredients, and emerging technologies within the beauty sector.
• Perform bench-scale formulation trials, analyze results, and troubleshoot any development challenges.
• Scale-up laboratory formulations to pilot and commercial production batches, collaborating with manufacturing partners.
• Ensure all formulations comply with relevant regulatory standards, safety guidelines, and internal quality specifications across various global markets.
• Prepare detailed technical documentation, including formulation reports, manufacturing procedures, and stability testing protocols.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, regulatory affairs, and quality assurance, throughout the product development process.
• Stay current with scientific literature, industry trends, and competitor activities to identify opportunities for innovation.
• Provide technical support to marketing, sales, and consumer affairs teams regarding product composition and performance.
• Mentor junior chemists and provide technical guidance on complex formulation challenges.

Requirements

• Master's or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Cosmetic Science, or a closely related scientific field.
• A minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in cosmetic formulation development, with a strong portfolio of successfully launched products.
• Deep understanding of cosmetic ingredients, their functions, interactions, and regulatory implications.
• Proficiency in analytical techniques relevant to cosmetic product testing (e.g., HPLC, GC-MS, viscometry).
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a rigorous scientific approach.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, essential for working effectively in a fully remote team environment.
• Experience with global cosmetic regulations (e.g., FDA, EU Cosmetics Regulation, ASEAN) is a significant advantage.
