Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Senior Pharmaceutical Development Scientist in Sandton for a hybrid role spanning early research to commercialization. You will apply pharmaceutics, solid-state chemistry, and formulation science to design and optimize drug delivery systems, contributing to cutting-edge projects and a robust product pipeline.

The role requires a PhD or MSc in a related field with 5+ years of formulation experience, strong analytical skills, and capability to transfer processes to scale-up.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutics, Chemistry, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical formulation development.
• Strong knowledge of drug delivery systems, excipients, and formulation principles.
• Proficiency with analytical techniques used in pharmaceutical characterization (HPLC, DSC, XRD).
• Experience with technology transfer and scale-up activities.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize stable pharmaceutical formulations for various dosage forms.
• Conduct pre-formulation studies including solubility and stability assessments.
• Characterize drug substances and excipients using analytical techniques.
• Scale-up laboratory formulations to pilot and commercial manufacturing processes.
• Collaborate with analytical, manufacturing, and regulatory teams throughout development.
• Troubleshoot formulation challenges and provide scientific expertise across the lifecycle.
