Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Fleet Maintenance Technician for a prominent transportation and logistics client in Benoni. You will diagnose, repair, and maintain a diverse fleet of heavy‑duty vehicles, with hands‑on workshop work and remote diagnostic support in a hybrid role.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or Fleet Maintenance Technician, with at least 5 years in a senior or lead role.
• Strong diagnostic skills and proficiency with electronic diagnostic tools and software.
• Comprehensive knowledge of heavy-duty diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, and electrical systems.
• Experience with preventative maintenance programs and their implementation.
• Valid driver's license (Code 10 or 14 preferred) and a clean driving record.
• Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic data.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Willingness to provide remote diagnostic assistance and participate in occasional virtual meetings is required for this hybrid role.
• Relevant trade qualifications (e.g., NQF Level 3 or 4 in Automotive Mechanical Technology) are highly desirable.
• Experience working with hydraulic systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive diagnostic tests on various vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and hydraulics.
• Execute repairs and maintenance on a diverse fleet of trucks, trailers, and other commercial vehicles.
• Implement and manage preventative maintenance schedules to minimize unexpected breakdowns and extend vehicle life.
• Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electrical issues, ensuring all work is performed to manufacturer specifications.
• Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities using the company's fleet management system.
• Order and manage inventory of parts and supplies, ensuring availability for timely repairs.
• Conduct safety inspections and ensure all vehicles comply with regulatory standards.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians.
• Assist with remote diagnostic support and troubleshooting for fleet issues as required.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest automotive technologies and repair techniques.
