Job summary

RPO Recruitment is seeking a Senior Fire Engineer in Johannesburg to develop bespoke fire safety solutions across mining, power, oil & gas sectors while collaborating with project teams and international specialists.

The role requires 8–10 years of experience, a degree in Fire or Mechanical Engineering, and ideally ECSA registration. You will perform risk analyses, design concept fire safety, and engage in hydraulic calculations and P&IDs, with site visits as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Fire Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (essential)
• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering (strong asset)
• Professional registration with ECSA (advantageous – Pr.Eng or Pr.TechEng)
• 8-10 years experience
• Experience conducting fire risk analyses, code compliance assessments, and conceptual fire safety designs against SANS, NFPA, and FM Global standards
• Experience developing performance-based fire safety strategies and code alternates
• Ability to perform hydraulic calculation reports and prepare P&IDs
• Experience with consequence modelling and gas dispersion studies
• Proficiency in DNV PHAST & SAFETI, PIPENET, AFT Fathom, and CFD modelling
• Aptitude for alternative compliance approaches and creative problem-solving
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong leadership and team motivation capability
• Willingness to conduct site visits as required
• Valid driver’s license
• Own reliable transport
