We're Hiring: Senior Financial Accountant – Mining Sector | Johannesburg
Are you a seasoned finance professional with experience in the mining or heavy industrial sector? We’re recruiting for a Senior Financial Accountant to join a leading mining company based in Johannesburg.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics.
• CA(SA), CPA, or MBA (advantageous).
• Valid Driver’s Licence.

Experience:

• At least 8 years in a Senior Financial Accountant, Deputy Finance Manager, or similar role.
• Proven expertise in financial reporting, compliance, and taxation within complex industrial environments.
• ERP system experience (SAP, Oracle, or similar).
• Exposure to the mining industry and understanding of project finance and asset valuation (preferred).

Technical Skills & Attributes:

• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
• Solid understanding of financial risk management, internal controls, and audit procedures.
• Leadership capabilities with experience in building high-performing finance teams.
• Proficiency in MS Excel (advanced), Power BI, and ERP platforms.
• Up-to-date knowledge of IFRS and South African tax laws (VAT, PAYE, Corporate Tax).
• Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder communication skills.
• Fluency in English (Sepedi verbal proficiency is an advantage).
• Commitment to ethical, safe, and sustainable financial practices.
• Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Planning & Budgeting:
  • Lead the development of annual budgets for operations, capital projects, and maintenance.
  • Work with senior leadership to align financial goals with operational strategies and market trends.
  
  Financial Analysis & Reporting:
  
  
  • Conduct profitability and variance analysis across mining operations.
  • Provide performance insights to drive cost optimisation and resource allocation.
  • Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, ensuring full regulatory and statutory compliance.
  • Liaise with auditors and ensure all audit activities are effectively coordinated.
  
  Tax & Payroll Compliance:
  
  
  • Manage company tax obligations (including VAT, PAYE, expat tax, and corporate tax).
  • Collaborate with HR on payroll and ensure accurate statutory deductions and benefits administration.
  
  Operational Cost Control & Governance:
  
  
  • Implement robust internal controls and lead internal audit processes to mitigate financial risk.
  • Maintain financial data integrity through system audits and accurate record-keeping.
  
  ERP & Asset Management:
  
  
  • Oversee ERP system functionality and reporting automation.
  • Monitor and track company assets, including valuations, insurance, and lifecycle audits.
  
  Stakeholder & ESG Reporting:
  
  
  • Prepare reports for stakeholders, regulators, and the board.
  • Track and report on financial commitments linked to environmental, social, and community initiatives.
  
  Operational Support:
  
  
  • Ensure financial policies are aligned with corporate HQ and South African regulations.
  • Provide financial guidance and training to operations and site teams.
  • Support compliance, reporting accuracy, and field expenditure control.
