Job summary

A leading global energy firm is looking for a Financial Accountant to join their Johannesburg office. The role requires a degree in accounting or finance and a strong understanding of IFRS. Responsibilities include preparing financial reports, managing the general ledger, and assisting with statutory accounts. Experience in the energy sector and ERP systems is preferred, and attention to detail is critical.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years experience as an accountant in energy, petrochemical, or mining sectors.
• Technical knowledge of optimising IRR is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly financial reports including balance sheet and profit & loss.
• Manage the general ledger and reconciliations.
• Execute payments and perform monthly bank reconciliation.
• Assist in year-end statutory accounts preparation.

Skills

Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)

Strong MS Excel skills

Experience in Audit and Accounts preparation

Attention to detail

Experience with Oracle Fusion or similar ERP systems

Education

Degree in accounting or finance

Chartered Accountant / ACCA / AG(SA)

Job description

A global leader in the Energy sector requires the skill of a dynamic individual to join them and thrive within this Financial Accountant role.You will .

You will meet the following minimum requirements

• Possess a degree in accounting or finance.
• Professional qualification preferred (Chartered Accountant / ACCA / AG(SA) )

• Good knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
• If not qualified, then at least 5+ years’ experience as an accountant within the energy / petrochemical / mining space
• Strong technical knowledge and experience in Audit and Accounts preparation is advantageous
• Accuracy and attention to detail non-negotiable
• Knowledge or experience in Oracle Fusion or similar ERP systems preferable
• A deep technical and on the job experience of optimising IRR is a strong advantage
• Solid MS Excel skills

Your key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

• Preparation of monthly financial reports covering balance sheet, profit and loss, internal management reports and cashflow statements
• Managing the general ledger including overseeing the monthly balance sheet, banking and inter-company reconciliations
• Managing foreign currency payments
• Executing payments and performing monthly bank reconciliation
• Preparation of indirect and Corporate Income Tax returns
• Assisting in the preparation of year end statutory accounts
• Assisting with the budgeting and forecasting
• Ensuring Accounting standards and policies are adhered to
• Reporting consolidated results at a group level
• Where required, M&A support regarding investment reporting and due diligence

• Location: Successful incumbent will primarily be based in Johannesburg
• Duration: Permanent
