Job description

Based in Mogalakwena Mine, Mokopane, South Africa, the Senior Field Engineer will provide field engineering services primarily in the mining, metals, and heavy industries at customer sites. This role is a 2.13.3.1 appointment in terms of MHSA and requires a high level of competence in instrumentation used in highly automated plants.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide technical services related to routine and moderately complex maintenance and repair of control systems and components.
  2. Diagnose and troubleshoot issues related to control systems and components.
  3. Communicate with engineers at customer sites regarding technical questions and specifications.
  4. Provide after-hours support in person and over the phone.
  5. Provide technical information and data to the Administrative Assistant for quotations and work scopes, including job requirements, parts, and costs.
  6. Complete service, time tracking, and expense documentation.
  7. Maintain tools and test equipment properly.
  8. Communicate with account managers about work status related to their customers.
  9. Coordinate with sales personnel on customer questions.
  10. Identify and assist with repair and manufacturing training needs.
  11. Disseminate best practices in instrumentation.
  12. Analyze and identify problems in current systems and infrastructure.
  13. Schedule and prioritize maintenance tasks.
  14. Ensure all work meets company standards and ISO Quality System requirements.
  15. Communicate clearly and accurately with employees, customers, and vendors.
Safety
  1. Identify high-risk and safety-critical areas.
  2. Observe all safety procedures and use proper safety equipment.
  3. Maintain a clean, neat, and safe work environment.
  4. Operate and maintain equipment safely at all times.
Qualifications and Experience
  1. Engineering-related Degree – BSc Engineering, BEng, BTech, or equivalent.
  2. Qualified instrumentation trade.
  3. Registered as Professional Engineer or Professional Engineering Technologist with ECSA (advantageous).
  4. At least 7 years of engineering experience in instrumentation, field service, or similar industrial environments focusing on automation and advanced instrumentation systems.
  5. At least 5 years of relevant management experience.
  6. Experience in mining, metals, or automation industries preferred.
  7. Advanced knowledge of Allen Bradley PLCs and fault finding.
  8. Advanced experience with SQL systems and reporting.
  9. Advanced experience with HMI systems.
  10. Advanced knowledge of communication protocols (Modbus, Canbus, Ethernet, etc.).
  11. Knowledge of programmable devices from ABB and Siemens.
