Based in Mogalakwena Mine, Mokopane, South Africa, the Senior Field Engineer will provide field engineering services primarily in the mining, metals, and heavy industries at customer sites. This role is a 2.13.3.1 appointment in terms of MHSA and requires a high level of competence in instrumentation used in highly automated plants.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical services related to routine and moderately complex maintenance and repair of control systems and components.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues related to control systems and components.
- Communicate with engineers at customer sites regarding technical questions and specifications.
- Provide after-hours support in person and over the phone.
- Provide technical information and data to the Administrative Assistant for quotations and work scopes, including job requirements, parts, and costs.
- Complete service, time tracking, and expense documentation.
- Maintain tools and test equipment properly.
- Communicate with account managers about work status related to their customers.
- Coordinate with sales personnel on customer questions.
- Identify and assist with repair and manufacturing training needs.
- Disseminate best practices in instrumentation.
- Analyze and identify problems in current systems and infrastructure.
- Schedule and prioritize maintenance tasks.
- Ensure all work meets company standards and ISO Quality System requirements.
- Communicate clearly and accurately with employees, customers, and vendors.
Safety

Qualifications and Experience
- Engineering-related Degree – BSc Engineering, BEng, BTech, or equivalent.
- Qualified instrumentation trade.
- Registered as Professional Engineer or Professional Engineering Technologist with ECSA (advantageous).
- At least 7 years of engineering experience in instrumentation, field service, or similar industrial environments focusing on automation and advanced instrumentation systems.
- At least 5 years of relevant management experience.
- Experience in mining, metals, or automation industries preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of Allen Bradley PLCs and fault finding.
- Advanced experience with SQL systems and reporting.
- Advanced experience with HMI systems.
- Advanced knowledge of communication protocols (Modbus, Canbus, Ethernet, etc.).
- Knowledge of programmable devices from ABB and Siemens.
