Overview

Senior F5 Engineer

Position Info

A highly skilled and experienced F5 Engineer to support the day-to-day operations of our F5 environment. This role is critical in maintaining a secure and highly available infrastructure across South Africa and the broader Africa Region.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the stability, security, and availability of the F5 environment through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and incident resolution.
  • Lead the planning and implementation of changes, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions aligned with business requirements and technical standards.
  • Provide expert-level support for the F5 estate, including troubleshooting and resolving complex issues in production environments.
  • Operate within the IT Service Management (ITSM) framework, utilizing Remedy for managing Change, Incident, and Problem Management processes.
  • Participate in a standby / on-call rotation and be available for after-hours maintenance and change deployments to ensure service continuity.
  • Engage in crisis management calls as needed to support rapid incident resolution.
Requirements
  • Matric and a Tertiary Qualification
  • F5 Certified BIG-IP Administrator (F5-CA)
  • BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM)
  • 8 years' experience in successful F5 implementations and troubleshooting in production environments
  • Strong understanding of ITSM processes and experience using Remedy.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime and after-hours support.
Skills
  • F5 Technologies: Expertise in F5 BIG-IP modules including LTM (Local Traffic Manager)
  • Scripting & Automation: Proficiency in iRules
  • Networking: Strong understanding of TCP / IP, routing, switching, VLANs and load balancing concepts.
  • Security: Experience with SSL / TLS offloading and certificate management
  • Monitoring & Logging: Familiarity with tools such as Splunk, SolarWinds, or equivalent for performance monitoring and log analysis.
  • Cloud & Virtualization: Exposure to cloud environments (AWS) and virtualized F5 deployments (VE).
  • Troubleshooting Tools: Skilled in packet capture and analysis using tools like Wireshark or tcpdump.
  • Operating Systems: VLOS and TMOS (Latest Versions)
