The role of a Senior Environmental Scientist involves delivering discipline-specific outputs on both local and international projects ensuring effective input from others.
Responsibilities:
- Working on detailed or routine environmental assignments such as studies, assessments, drawings, and reports.
- Key tasks include EIA / ESIA development, report writing, data review, supervision and mentoring, coordination, and acquiring baseline documentation.
- Signing local reports, documents, and forms as a registered Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) and leading Public Participation / Stakeholder Engagement.
- Interfacing with local clients and competent authorities as well as collaborating with internal AECOM teams globally.
- Preparing project deliverables that are reviewed by senior team members.
- Performing specific and large portions of a broader assignment as an experienced Engineer / Environmental Scientist / Environmental Manager.
- Providing specialized technical input into studies and assessments for the particular area of expertise and identifying discrepancies in results.
- Following existing or developing new environmental assessment procedures to facilitate high-quality, cost-effective work by self and others.
- Participating in and creating an interdisciplinary review of project deliverables including modeling reviews and laboratory analysis.
- Gathering and correlating environmental information and data using well-defined methods.
- Preparing technical specifications and performing work under the agreed-upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
- Applying legislative knowledge to project triggers and managing environmental risk.
- Coordinating with local Authorities for approvals.
- Solving problems encountered using knowledge, innovation, and modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous works.
- Contributing to the area of expertise by providing proposed improvements to existing processes and delivering solutions where precedent may not exist.
- Performing technical quality reviews of environmental assessments, models, and survey analysis including documentation in project records by adhering to quality, occupational health and safety, and corporate standards.
- Maintaining and developing the highest level of technical skills and abilities.
- Using pricing and managing budget / schedule for innovative environmental enhancements.
Client Relationship Management:
- Attending client meetings as technical support to gather information and discuss project requirements.
- Presenting solutions to clients in a professional and technically competent manner.
- Participating in the development and preparation of bids and proposals.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 8 Years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor of Science, Arts, or Engineering from an accredited University.
- Master of Science / Arts or Engineering preferred but not a prerequisite.
- In South Africa, professionally registered as Scientist with SACNASP and EAP with EAPASA.
- Knowledge of international legislation and funder requirements would be beneficial.
