Job summary

Placements24 in Stellenbosch is seeking a Lead Environmental Consultant to manage a range of environmental projects, focusing on EIAs, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder engagement.

The role requires a Master’s in Environmental Science/Management and at least 9 years in environmental consulting, with leadership experience and SA regulatory knowledge. Hybrid work options are available.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or related field.
• Minimum of 9 years' experience in environmental consulting with strong EIAs/regulatory focus.
• Proven track record of managing complex environmental projects.
• In-depth knowledge of SA environmental legislation (NEMA, MPRDA, Water Act).
• Experience with DFFE and provincial environmental departments.
• Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills.
• Strong leadership and project management capabilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Registered with a relevant professional body (e.g., EAPASA) is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, execution, and management of EIAs and Basic Assessments.
• Develop and implement EMPs for various industries.
• Conduct environmental audits and ensure compliance with legislation.
• Provide expert advice on regulations, permitting, and licensing (Water Use Licenses).
• Manage client portfolios and develop new business opportunities.
• Supervise and mentor junior environmental consultants and staff.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities, stakeholders, and clients throughout projects.
• Prepare and review technical reports, proposals, and presentations.
• Stay updated with evolving environmental legislation and best practices.
• Contribute to strategic development of the environmental services division.
