About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineering Facultative Underwriter to join their Engineering Facultative Team. Reporting to the Head of Facultative Underwriting, you will play a critical role in underwriting and ensuring the profitability of the single-risk facultative reinsurance portfolio for Property, Engineering, and Casualty risks across South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and grow a sustainable facultative engineering reinsurance portfolio across Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Assess risks, evaluate reinsurance terms, and provide competitive underwriting solutions.
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with brokers and clients, both locally and internationally.
  • Provide technical mentorship and support to the engineering team and junior underwriters.
  • Advise Treaty Underwriters on risk evaluations and underwriting decisions.
  • Conduct workshops, training sessions, and seminars for internal teams and external clients.
  • Perform surveys and assessments of large-scale engineering risks, preparing detailed reports.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, conduct market analysis, and stay ahead of industry trends.
Requirements
  • BSc in Engineering with at least 5 years of practical field experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Engineering (re)insurance with strong technical underwriting expertise.
  • Fluency in English (French language skills preferred).
  • Ability and willingness to travel across Sub-Saharan Africa for business development.
  • Proven ability to drive business growth and develop key client relationships.
  • Strong analytical, risk assessment, and decision-making abilities.
