To provide discipline-specific engineering services to iX engineers and its clients on various projects, including feasibility studies, technical investigations, design, procurement documentation and administration, contract administration, construction monitoring, and project management, while supporting the broader iX engineers' business, values, and vision.
Areas of Responsibility
Business Development and Support
- Attend tender briefings, prepare tender documentation, write method statements, assist with pricing calculations, and contribute to business development and tender processes as required.
- Contribute to the marketing and growth of the Water Department in Cape Town to attract new clients and projects.
Project Management, Administration, Health and Safety, and Quality Procedures
- Follow company procedures for project registration, risk analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and invoicing.
- Ensure compliance with Quality procedures by maintaining an auditable trail of actions throughout the project lifecycle, in accordance with company standards.
- Adhere to Health and Safety requirements both in the workplace and on construction sites.
- Manage project costs through review and approval of labor and disbursement expenses.
Project Planning and Execution
- Gather client requirements, define project scope, and obtain client approval.
- Supervise network analysis to ensure standards are met.
- Confirm and secure client approval for project budgets.
- Develop project schedules aligned with client requirements and obtain client approval.
- Prepare and evaluate alternative designs, technical reports, and cost estimates; liaise with professionals internally and externally.
- Perform detailed hydraulic designs.
- Lead the design team, coordinate detailed designs, and oversee the preparation of drawings and tender documents to ensure high standards of engineering deliverables.
- Present designs and project status updates to clients.
- Facilitate tendering, evaluation, and contractor selection processes, including site handover.
- Serve as the lead site supervision representative.
- Undertake contract administration and construction monitoring duties.
- Manage project administration from initiation to completion (Stages 1-6, ECSA).
- Compile status reports using information from engineers.
- Oversee project close-out activities.
- Maintain effective communication within the project team.
- Develop initiatives to improve project cost efficiency and effectiveness.
Development, Training, and Mentoring
- Participate in ongoing professional development to maintain registration.
- Mentor and provide technical leadership to candidate engineers and technologists.
- Facilitate lessons learned workshops.
Leadership and Relations
- Maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage project teams to control risks and achieve targets within time and budget constraints.
- Assist in developing and reviewing discipline-specific standards, templates, and technologies.
Education, Language & Qualifications
- B.Eng degree.
- Professional registration.
- Post-graduate qualification in Project Management is advantageous.
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Minimum of 8 years of Civil Engineering experience with a strong technical background.
- Knowledge of water discipline fundamentals and general understanding of other disciplines.
- Familiarity with relevant local and international standards, regulations, and statutory requirements.
- Experience with various contract forms applicable to the discipline.
- Ability to identify issues, develop solutions, and make timely decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong project management and leadership capabilities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
