Job summary

Mintek Pty Ltd. in Randburg invites applications for a Senior Engineer: Process Control Implementation to lead advanced furnace control projects and to contribute to future furnace control research directions.

You will execute installations locally and internationally, supervise R&D aligned with the divisional programme, train clients to a nationally competitive level, and ensure projects meet time and budget targets while maintaining QES standards.

Qualifications

• Must have MSc or MEng in Electrical or Electronics.
• PhD is an added advantage.
• Minimum 3 years' experience in the minerals/minerals-related industry.
• Experience in control and/or operation of submerged-arc furnaces.
• Willingness to travel locally and internationally with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Execute furnace control installations locally and internationally.
• Lead R&D projects aligned with the divisional research programme.
• Main client contact for project administration and technical aspects.
• Provide clients with advanced training at a nationally-competitive level of technical expertise.
• Contribute technically to marketing presentations.
• Ascertain needs of clients to contribute to annual R&D planning and strategy.
• Ensure projects are executed on time and within budget.
• Adhere to QES procedures and maximise technical efficiency.
• Mentor junior staff and participate in team debates and technical decisions.
• Produce professional reports and papers for local and international conferences.
• Stay up-to-date with technology and business developments relevant to the division.

Introduction

We seek individuals who are experienced in the field of advanced process control systems with a specific focus on furnace control onsite installations and furnace optimisation. Needs to exercise a high degree of judgement, creativity and foresight. The preferred candidate will further give inputs into future furnace control and optimisation research directions for Mintek and can participate in these R&D activities as time allows.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

• Execute furnace control installations, both locally and internationally, in which interactions withclients and technical expertise are required at a professional level.


• Execute R&D projects in line with the divisional research programme, employing finance control andelectrical engineering theory and principles.


• The main contact point on client projects for both project administration and technical aspects.


• Provide clients with advanced training at a nationally-competitive level of technical expertise.


• Contribute technically to marketing presentations.


• Ascertain needs of clients, to contribute to annual R&D planning and strategy.


• Ensure that projects are executed on time and within budget.


• Ensure that QES procedures are strictly adhered to and that project work is executed with maximumoverall technical efficiency.


• Actively participate in the training, guidance and motivation of junior staff. Participate in teamdebates and technical decisions.


• Produce professional reports, papers and presentations at local and international conferences.


• Keep up-to-date at a professional level with technology and business developments that arerelevant to the division’s interests.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Min - MSc or MEng. Electrical or Electronics.


• PhD will be an added advantage.
