Qualifications

• National Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 7+ years of experience as an Electrical Technician focused on distribution networks.
• Valid trade test certificate (Electrician) required.
• Proficient with electrical testing equipment and diagnostic tools.
• Knowledge of LOTO safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair electrical distribution equipment (transformers, switchgear, cables).
• Respond to outages and troubleshoot faults promptly.
• Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on grid assets.
• Interpret schematics, blueprints, and manuals for complex repairs.
• Ensure safety regulations and company procedures are followed.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Electrical Technician to join their essential Grid Operations team in Stellenbosch . This role is hands‑on and critical for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and safe operation of the local electricity distribution network. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability of power supply, responding to outages, and performing preventative maintenance on critical infrastructure. This is a key position within a vital service provider, ensuring the community has consistent and safe access to electricity.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical distribution equipment, including transformers, switchgear, and underground cables.
• Respond to and troubleshoot power outages and electrical faults in a timely and efficient manner.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on grid assets to ensure operational reliability.
• Interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals to perform complex repairs.
• Ensure all work is performed in strict adherence to safety regulations and company procedures.
• Operate specialized equipment such as fault locators, test meters, and safety gear.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians.

Requirements

• National Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience as an Electrical Technician, with a strong focus on distribution networks and grid operations.
• Valid trade test certificate (e.g., Electrician) is essential.
• Proficiency in using electrical testing equipment and diagnostic tools.
• Thorough understanding of electrical safety procedures, including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout).
• Ability to work independently, under pressure, and respond to emergencies outside of normal working hours.
