Job description

A challenging opportunity exists at Metals Vanderbijlpark for a Senior Electrical Technician. The primary objective for this role is to lead, motivate, monitor and oversee a team of electrical technicians to ensure they produce quality work. To provide technical guidance and support regarding the procurement, installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems. The position reports to the Technical Manager and is graded at a Peromnes 08.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure successful implementation of modifications, upgrades and new equipment
  • Implement excellence in asset management to ensure improved equipment availability, reliability and life cycle
  • Responsible for execution of the work plan and control according to Asset Management strategy.
  • Liaise with planning and production to determine the best time for the work to be carried out.
  • Ensure work is carried out on time and in full.
  • Oversee inspection of work done ensuring quality and work carried out according to specification.
  • Ensure that maintenance is done on equipment according to the standard, on time in full
  • Ensure breakdowns are efficiently and effectively attended to
  • Follow up on major breakdowns and equipment failures and ensure preventative measures are in place.
  • Interpret the loss and waste analysis determining focus areas
  • Carry out evidence based structured problem solving with the team to reduce and prevent reoccurring failures
  • Prevent redundancy through keeping up with the industry technology and trends
  • Lead and manage the team
  • Monitor team performance and progress against plan, taking corrective action where necessary.
  • Facilitate meetings using Visual Management, encouraging teamwork and a drive for continuous improvement

The ideal candidate should possess the following:

  • Electrical Engineering Degree or Diploma
  • 5 years electrical experience
  • 2 years Leadership experience
  • Experience in an FMCG manufacturing
  • Electrical systems
