About the Role
We are looking to recruit an Electrical Team Lead Engineer to join our MCF & Industry South Africa team which is looking to recruit to expand and develop its South Africa based Data Centre & Industry Electrical Engineering teams to assist with our growing workload. You will be flexible, dynamic with the ability to assist in the development of our growing team out of South Africa.
Job Requirements
Desired Qualifications and Professional Registration
- A bachelor and/or master’s degree in electrical engineering;
- Professional registration with ECSA as a PrEng / PrTech;
- Relevant working experience in electrical design and / or installation in a consulting engineering environment including data centre & industry building design, construction oversight & commissioning experience:
- PrTech, 20+ years’ experience required
- PrEng, 15+ years’ experience required
- Good knowledge of standard practices in the design and construction industry;
- Good understanding of the daily (operational) business of our clients;
- Digital way of working skills
Duties and Responsibilities
We will entrust and rely on you to:
- You will be responsible for overseeing and managing all electrical engineering aspects of data centre & industry design projects. Project responsibility will be varied from inception of defining a client’s design brief to inspections, specifications, design, and management of projects. This role requires someone with the ability to lead a team of engineers, deliver quality & robust deliverables, and ensure that all project milestones are met on time and within budget.
- This specific Team lead role requires the additional role of people and resource management across the overall electrical engineering team. This includes but not limited to: resourcing projects with electrical team members, recruitment of new team members, effectively communicating with all electrical members on a weekly basis through internal team meetings, setting goals and career growth paths for all electrical team members, providing personal guidance to team members, new employee onboarding and integration into the overall team, performance reviews and overall team direction as well as internal conflict management. Alongside this team lead role, additional lead engineers will be incorporated adding to the overall technical excellence of the electrical engineering team with each of the lead engineers specifically leading certain technical and project aspects of the overall discipline in their own lead responsibilities.
Role objectives include:
- Providing leadership to the South Africa Electrical Engineering team, reporting to the MCF & Industry Director Advisory Group
- Maintaining effective communication and relationship with our global teams (NL, GER & UK)
- Support technical leadership on projects alongside other lead engineers
- Supporting technical leadership, mentoring, and coaching to design engineers or technologists alongside other lead engineers
- Business development support including input into bids and proposals
- There will be a requirement to support our global teams (NL, GER, SWI, POL, UK, etc) on data centre & industry building projects
- There will be a requirement to support our local teams (Aviation AG, Water AG & Transport AG, etc) on building or infrastructure projects
- Manage and deliver the electrical work packages in multiple projects.
- Your responsibilities will include:
- Manage the overall electrical engineering team
- Account for all electrical engineering team members including their performance, project delivery, career growth, integration into the team etc.
- Provide/feed into overall team and project resourcing schedules
- Provide support to the Director Advisory Group on the growth and direction of MCF & Industry AG
- Support the recruitment process of new team members by reviewing CV’s, interacting in interviews with candidates and recommending outcomes
- Manage and deliver the electrical work packages in multiple projects.
- Identify the scope, design, and management objectives and delivering project documentation to ensure the quality and flow of information required for contractors, vendors, and regulatory authorities.
- Production of design calculations, sketch drawings, details of drawings using relevant software (ACC, Revit, Revizto, Dialux, ETAP, etc) including checking and reviewing of these prior to issue where completed by others.
- Write technical specifications and reports.
- Assist the project manager in the preparation/review of project costs, risk assessments.
- Develop and maintaining vendor relationships to ensure continuous technical professional development.
- Review contractor pre-qualifications and preparing tender evaluation summaries for tender reviews.
- Evaluate proposals and recommendations to the client regarding vendor selection.
- Write technical specifications for tenders.
- Represent RHDHV on factory acceptance tests and site testing & commissioning activities.
- Communicate the status of projects to internal directors and external stakeholders (clients) on an ad-hoc and formal basis.
