Job Description

To produce cost effective and technically sound Electrical designs within the required time frame to support project deliverables.

Project Life Cycle
  1. Ensure discipline strategy development during set-up to meet project deliverables
  2. Offer general project support and problem solving on technical matters arising
  3. Use knowledge of scope on current and recent projects to promote re-use of engineering where possible
  4. Review key discipline documentation and drawings produced on projects
  5. Develop electrical strategy and design criteria to suit the unique project/client requirements
  6. Produce regular project status reports
  7. Generate post-project feedback
Design
  1. Review and Approve Cable schedules that list all cable details and lengths
  2. Generate scope of work specifications with technical requirements for each package
  3. Assist in developing, managing and controlling the discipline cost and man-hour estimates
  4. Produce discipline specific designs according to schedule and budget
  5. Maintain effective engineering input/output of design office
Client Relationship
  1. Maintain effective inter-discipline requirements
  2. Manage and interface with Clients, suppliers and contractors to meet project objectives
Continuous Improvement
  1. Provide suggestions for improving internal work methods and procedures on an ad-hoc basis.
Quality and Safety
  1. Regularly review and contribute towards improvement of procedures and systems
  2. Ensure all QA procedures and guidelines are followed in all daily activities
  3. Participate in quality assurance audits
  4. Monitor vendor quality
  5. Monitor site quality
  6. Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
  7. Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Professionally the successful candidate will be a B. Sc/B. Eng. or B. Tech (Electrical) graduate and preferably registered with ECSA as a professional engineer.
Skills And Experience
  1. Between 5 to 25 years’ experience executing projects in the EPC/EPCM environment; ideally within the mining and minerals (preferred) or petrochemical sector.
  2. Project Management - Knowledge of basic project management methods and knowledge of all project life cycle phases
  3. Electrical distributions & transmission - Knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution systems & techniques
  4. Electrical network - Network Systems & techniques
  5. Cables & Wires- Products and design techniques
  6. Electrical control systems - Design, equipment and Systems.
  7. Design Criteria - Applications and improvements of technical knowledge into design criteria that suit project reqs. And/or support the design of new components/equipment
  8. Technical Documentation -Ability to create, understand and communicate via technical specifications
  9. Plant Layout development -Ability to lay out the plant in a functional, safe and cost-effective way
  10. Materials Fundamentals - Knowledge and understanding of basic information regarding materials and their properties used in engineering and manufacturing activities
  11. Construction & Commissioning - Understanding of on-site construction work and commissioning with associated contractor and supplier interactions
  12. Cost Estimation - Understand cost of design (including cost of deliverables generation) and ability to estimate costs related to a project or specific activity
  13. Basic IT Tools -Office Automation and Graphic Software
  14. Procurement - Understand project cost control, budgeting, procurement, purchase-to-pay and supply chain management
  15. Engineering Calculations - Knowledge of engineering calculation techniques
  16. Innovation & Adaptability - The ability to adapt to different environments (team, technologies, countries etc.) from a technical point of view, including ability to find out new possible technological solutions according to customer’s needs.
  17. Quality Engineering - Knowledge of quality methods, management systems and procedures and/or understanding of quality features of products and parts
  18. Quantity Estimation - Ability to estimate quantities (volumes, dimensions, masses, weights etc.)
  19. CAE Software - Familiarity with CAE software including setting up systems, procedures and guidelines e.g. AutoCAD
  20. Legislation and Standards - Knowledge of sector specific law (e.g. Engineering safety reqs, and knowledge of standard specifications (e.g. Plant layout requirements etc.) including the ability to integrate these standards.
