Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Senior Electrical and/or I&C Engineer for its Cape Town team. This role focuses on compiling and reviewing designs and supporting project teams in the Nuclear and Power Generation sectors, contributing to significant projects that extend the lifespan of Koeberg Nuclear Power Station. Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and at least 7 years of experience in a related field.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of experience in Power Generation or regulated industry.
• Professional registration (Pr Eng / Pr Tech.) is advantageous.
• Experience at Koeberg or other Nuclear Power Plants preferred.

Responsibilities

• Compile and review Electrical and I&C designs and tenders.
• Support project installation teams on EPC projects.

About the Opportunity:

Jacobs has a history of supporting South African public electricity utility Eskom through engineering, procurement, and construction contracts. At Koeberg Nuclear Power Station in Cape Town, our projects include expanding spent fuel cooling capacity, station blackout mitigation, hydrogen production, and system upgrades such as replacing the Data Acquisition and Fire Detection systems.

Our largest project involves essential modifications for power uprate, part of a $1.2 billion program extending Koeberg's lifespan by 20 years, which supplies 5% of South Africa’s electricity.

We are hiring a Senior Electrical and/or I&C Engineer to join our Cape Town team. The role involves compiling and reviewing Electrical and I&C designs, tenders, and supporting project installation teams on EPC projects within the Nuclear and Power Generation sectors.

Here's What You'll Need:

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Engineering, with design engineering experience. Professional registration (Pr Eng / Pr Tech.) is advantageous.
• Experience in component sizing, selection, protection, and coordination for AC and DC reticulation systems.
• Knowledge of large electrical components such as switchgear, motors, generators, transformers.
• Thorough understanding of Control and Instrumentation Systems and Components.
• Familiarity with Electrical and I&C Codes and Standards (SANS, ISO, IEC, IEEE).
• Experience with Chargers, Inverters, Batteries, UPS systems.
• Minimum 7 years of experience, preferably in Power Generation or a similarly regulated industry.
• Experience at Koeberg or other Nuclear Power Plants, with knowledge of Nuclear Codes and standards.
