Placements24 is seeking a Senior Deep Learning Engineer in Pietermaritzburg for a hybrid role working on advanced DL projects, including vision, NLP and recommendations. You will design, train, and deploy state-of-the-art models and collaborate with researchers and engineers.

You will leverage TensorFlow, PyTorch or Keras, manage large datasets, and optimize for performance and scalability while staying current with DL research and industry trends.

Formación

• Master's or PhD with ML/Deep Learning focus.
• 5+ years hands-on DL model development and deployment.
• Proficient in Python and major DL frameworks.
• Experience with cloud ML platforms and MLOps.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, train, and evaluate deep learning models for various applications, including but not limited to computer vision, natural language processing, and recommendation systems.
• Implement and optimize deep learning algorithms using frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras.
• Work with large-scale datasets, including data preprocessing, augmentation, and feature engineering.
• Collaborate with research scientists and other engineers to translate research ideas into production‑ready code.
• Optimize model performance for scalability, efficiency, and inference speed.
• Stay current with the latest advancements in deep learning research and industry trends.
• Develop and maintain robust, well‑documented code and models.
• Contribute to the architectural design of deep learning systems and pipelines.
• Participate in code reviews and knowledge sharing sessions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to model training and deployment.

Requirements

• Master's or PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related quantitative field with a focus on Machine Learning or Deep Learning.
• 5+ years of hands‑on experience in developing and deploying deep learning models.
• Proficiency in Python and extensive experience with deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras).
• Strong understanding of various neural network architectures (CNNs, RNNs, Transformers, GANs).
• Experience with data preprocessing, model evaluation, and hyperparameter tuning.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and MLOps practices.
• Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and debugging skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, essential for effective collaboration in a hybrid setting.
• Experience with distributed training is a plus.
