Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Data Scientist in George, Western Cape (ZA) to lead predictive analytics initiatives. You will build and deploy ML models, analyze large datasets, and collaborate with stakeholders to drive business value. The role offers a hybrid work arrangement at our George facility.

The ideal candidate holds a Master's or PhD in a quantitative field with 7+ years of data science experience and strong Python/R and SQL skills, plus experience with Spark/Hadoop is a plus.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or related quantitative field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in data science with predictive modeling focus.
• Proven experience building and deploying ML models (regression, classification, clustering, time series).
• Proficiency in Python or R and libraries like scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Pandas, NumPy.
• Strong SQL skills for data extraction and manipulation.

Responsibilities

• Develop, validate, and deploy predictive models using ML and statistics.
• Analyze large datasets to identify trends and actionable insights.
• Design and implement A/B tests and experimental designs.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business challenges into DS problems.
• Communicate complex analyses clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Contribute to data pipelines and data quality improvements.
• Mentor junior data scientists and guide technical work.
• Build and maintain robust, scalable DS solutions.
• Document methodologies, code, and results thoroughly.
